Psychosis and spirituality consolidating the new paradigm 2nd edition
We welcome experiencers of diverse backgrounds and beliefs and address a wide variety of STEs.
ACISTE is both a community of experiencers and a non-profit corporation.
In addition, since 2002, I have personally experienced 3 ‘multi-sensory spiritual/mystical awakenings’. We have tried professional support for my sister and now, decades later, we realise that, although there are many caring professionals, the mental health support services are inadequate for those of us who don’t ‘tick the right boxes’.
My older sister has physical health problems in addition and hasn’t been able to work for many years.
OUR VISION is to act as a resource providing help and information for those going through or recovering from spiritual crisis, for professionals, carers and supporters of those going through or recovering from spiritual crisis.
FROM BREAKDOWN TO BREAKTHROUGH – Promoting understanding and support for those going through profound personal transformation.
My ‘mystical experiences’ have shown me that we are multi-sensory human beings where everything is linked in a simple, beautiful and yet intricate way.
However, the interconnectedness/one-ness of ourselves and everything in the Universe is not generally acknowledged.

On the other hand when protective factors are absent and the ‘rapid’ and ‘dramatic’ plunge into such experiences is unprecedented and unexpected, the experient will likely become so seized and overwhelmed by death anxiety as to impair cognitive, interpersonal, and vocational functioning.
The temporary abeyance of cognitive constructs leaves the experient vulnerable to potential self-harm and harming others.
Today, there are separate categories for schizophrenic disorders, mood disorders (which include bipolar disorder and major depression), and other serious mental disturbances such as delusional disorder.
Symptoms of these disorders may include hallucinations and delusions; severe deviations of mood (depression and mania); lack of, or inappropriateness of, emotional response; and severe impairment of judgment.
